Guisborough Town 0-1 Blyth Spartans Match Report.
Dan Lanning's fifth minute strike separated 10-man Guisborough Town and Blyth Spartans handing the latter their first away league win this season.
Guisborough looked to hit Blyth early as Sam Collins broke down the left hand side unleashing a strike towards goal which was saved by Callum Dobson inside the opening minutes.
Marc Nash couldn’t have asked for a better start as Jack Walker's cross was gently controlled by Jack Foalle allowing Lanning to volley the ball home to score his third goal in his last four appearances.
Spartans almost doubled their advantage in the 30th minute, a well worked move fell to Paul Van-Zandvliet but his effort was guided just over the bar.
Half Time: Guisborough Town 0-1 Blyth Spartans
The Priorymen started the second half on the front foot causing Blyth serious concern, a corner was delivered into the area but the effort crashed off the bar from the resulting header.
Five minutes later Tom Birtles bundled his way into the area but the ball was taken away from him at a crucial stage, Kalluk Griffith also smashed an effort goalwards but couldn’t keep it down.
Blyth grew into the second half but couldn’t create anything concrete.
One of their few efforts in the second half saw Lanning attempt to double his tally with a speculative effort from distance which was saved comfortably by Ryan Catterick.
Guisborough threw one last Hail Mary at Spartans to try and salvage something from the game but their attempts were nullified by the resolute backline preserving their clean sheet and three points at the Kevin Edward KGV Stadium.
Blyth Spartans next fixture is on Tuesday, 13 October as they travel to high flying Liversedge for a crucial fixture at the top end of the table.
