Blyth Spartans 1-0 North Ferriby Match Report.

Blyth Spartans defeated North Ferriby 1-0 on their return to Croft Park after Ewan McGowan’s solo goal separated the two sides on a blustery Northumberland afternoon.

Tension grew in the ground as both sides failed to register an effort on target in the opening 30 minutes but Spartans were the closest to opening the scoring through Jordan Hickey who fired an effort just wide from 20 yards out.

Marc Nash’s side eventually opened the scoring five minutes later through McGowan, the tricky midfielder picked up the ball deep in The Villagers half before dancing past three defenders and slamming the ball past Jonathan Dash.

Similar to the first half both sides struggled to find any rhythm after the restart with the conditions playing a big part in the game, both sides were forced into substitutions due to injuries.

Blyth came close to doubling their lead through Rhys Evans, the attacking fullback picked up the ball on the edge of the area but fired his shot just over the stanchion.

Chris Bolder’s side came very close to equalising minutes later as a dangerous ball was delivered into the box and Brandon Murillo attacked forcing a reaction save out of Callum Dobson.

Positive substitutions from Marc Nash changed the momentum of the game once again in Blyth’s favour, Paul Dudgeon found space in the Ferriby box but his shot was well stopped by Dash.

After three consecutive away games it was the perfect return home for Blyth Spartans, their relentless fixture schedule continues as they face Ossett United at Croft Park on Tuesday evening, 19:45pm kick off.
