Spartans strolled to another cup win as they defeated Cheshire side 1874 Northwich in the FA Trophy First Round Qualifying.
A first half Jack Foalle double separated the sides on an overcast afternoon where Spartans needed a reaction to Tuesday Nights drubbing in Consett.
Spartans started the game positively and were rewarded with the opening goal in the 14th minute, a beautiful team goal was worked down the right hand side before Foalle slotted home from the centre of the box.
Foalle was in the goals again in the 25th minute, a nice move down the left hand side broke to the tenacious forward who slammed a sumptuous effort into the top corner past Max Beddow.
Spartans maintained their dominance through the first half and should have added more goals with Paul Van-Zandvliet and Foalle sending low crosses into dangerous areas but none of which were capitalised on.
Half Time: Blyth Spartans 2-0 1874 Northwich.
The visitors made an attacking change at the break swinging the momentum of the game in their favour, despite that they were unable to create any clear ur opportunities to test Michael Hogan who was making his first competitive appearance this season.
Blyth grew into the second half with confidence flowing through the squad Lucas Taylor and Dan Lanning fired ambitious efforts from range none of which tested Beddow, Lanning also tried his luck from a free kick 20 yards out forcing a save from the visiting goalkeeper.
Northwich’s best opportunity of the game fell at the feet of second half substitute Evra Yao who picked up the ball inside the 18 yard box but was blocked by Jordan Summerly preventing the forward from getting a shot off on goal.
Spartans strolled through the second half without any trouble and have booked their place in the next round of the FA Trophy which is a much needed boost for the squad ahead of a second Northumberland Derby this month as Morpeth Town travel to Croft Park on bank holiday Monday, 13:30pm kick off.
