Tyne Met - Open Training Event
Friday, 13 February 2026
Our high-flying Tyne Met academy side is holding an open training event next week during the half term, ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The open session will take place on Monday, 16th February, between 10:30am and 12pm at the Northumberland FA HQ in Wallsend (NE28 7BF).
Since partnering with Spartans in 2019, the academy side has gone on to produce players who have gone into full-time football with the likes of Middlesbrough, secured college scholarships in the USA and broken into the first team at Spartans.
Academy players have gone on to make a combined 150 appearances in the first team, while the academy sides themselves have had many successful runs in the FA Youth Cup in recent years and secured numerous league titles - all while taking part in and winning international tournaments in New York City.
Competing in the National League Football Alliance against academies from the National League and the Football League, the Blyth Spartans/Tyne Met academy has grown into one of the best youth setups in the North East outside of professional football.
Former academy prospect Jack Daley, who joined Championship side Middlesbrough in the summer of 2025, credited Tyne Met coaches Marc Nash and Graham Fenton with helping him secure a move into full-time football.
The coaches helped me massively while I was at the academy. There were a few moments when I found myself in a bit of a bad place in a footballing sense, but both Marc and Graham were there to pick me up, on and off the pitch. They're both extremely supportive people, while also being brilliant coaches.
Reflecting on his time at the academy, Jack said,
The experience at the New York Cup is something I remember fondly”. He added, “Playing football with your mates in New York while getting to experience the city, what more could you want? Getting to do that was the opportunity of a lifetime.
Jack also featured in Spartans' FA Youth Cup run during the 2024/25 season, as they dispatched Hartlepool United, Rochdale and Bradford City in a run to the second round proper. On the run, Jack said,
I was out injured until the first round proper, but to be put straight back into the team and score was an incredible feeling.
On TyneMet College, Jack said,
The environment at the college was great. The setup there was perfect for a student athlete, and I really enjoyed my time there. It's a step I'm glad I took, and I'd encourage anyone to attend Tyne Met. The academy's success speaks for itself.
