Squad Announcement Day - Colin Myers
Tuesday, 24 June 2025
Blyth Spartans AFC first team manager Colin Myers is counting down the days to the start of the new season - and for him the first big milestone is just a week away.
Colin said "For us, the first of July is the first big day of the new season.
"That's our "Squad Announcement Day", when the names of the playing squad that we've been working so hard behind the scenes to assemble will be published.
"We're really pleased with the group that we've been able to bring together; it's a very healthy blend of youth and experience. "The budgetary constraints we're working under are well documented, but nonetheless we've been able to build what we believe is a good, competitive squad. If some of the young players we have develop like we think they can, then they can enjoy a flourishing career at Blyth Spartans for years to come."
So Tuesday the first of July is the day when the squad will be announced, and the following Saturday, 5th July will see an Open Training Day at Croft Park, an event organised together with Blyth Spartans Juniors where the coming season's first team players will literally be introduced to supporters. Squad members will take part in coaching sessions with the youngsters from Blyth Spartans Juniors, and will be available to talk with fans ahead of their own public training session.
Colin Myers added
We've been counting down the days, and now everyone knows what they can expect.
There are good reasons why we've done it this way: player registrations for next season don't mean much until the 1st July, and we've always made clear that we want to announce the whole squad when it's ready.
We're not bound by the ways that other clubs might choose to do things, and while we can understand the worries of fans as expressed on social media, for the coaching staff at Spartans the most important thing is to get it right.
We're quietly confident that come the first of July, - just seven days to go! - everyone will recognise that we have put together a squad to compete and to entertain, one that will be well worth getting behind.
