Olly Martin is a Spartan

Blyth Spartans AFC is delighted to announce the signing of 28-year old winger Olly Martin from NPL Premier Division champions Hebburn Town.

After spending time in both Newcastle United and Sunderland's youth set ups, Olly featured for Gateshead U18's before a spell with South Shields reserves in the Wearside League. His form would earn him a move to Jarrow Roofing in the Northern League, where he'd impress again and earn a switch to Whitley Bay in 2018.

In his only season with Whitley Bay he'd net 12 goals and register over 10 assists before moving back to South Tyneside to link up with Hebburn Town in the summer of 2019.

Martin would enjoy a goal and trophy-laden spell with the Hornets - cementing himself as a crucial player in the side throughout their 3 promotions on route to the National League North. Making 260 appearances across that spell while scoring 80 goals, Olly's most important goal contribution came in the 2020 FA Vase final - netting the winner in the 80th minute to secure a 3-2 victory over Consett.

A dominant player who plays on the left flank and is capable of playing elsewhere across the frontline.

Olly was thrilled to be linking up with Marc Nash's team:

Buzzing to get it done. Everyone knows the stature of this football club and as soon as I spoke to Nash and had a walk around the ground, I knew I'd made the right choice.

You can see the ambition around the place straight away and I can't wait to get going in front of the fans.

The gaffer Marc Nash was delighted to get the move over the line:

Olly's a player with huge pedigree who has seen it all at Hebburn during their rise through the leagues, capped off by scoring the winning goal in the FA Vase Final at Wembley.

To beat off some serious competition for his signature is a real statement from the club and one the fans will no doubt love.

There have been some big personalities at this football club over the years, and Olly has all the attributes to become another huge favourite here.
