Blyth Spartans to Host Community Takeover at Blyth Links parkrun

Friday, 22 May 2026

Blyth Spartans AFC are delighted to announce that the club will be hosting a special community takeover at Blyth Links parkrun on Saturday 13 June 2026. The takeover typically sees a local organisation, club or community group provide volunteers, support and participation for an event, helping create a themed community-focused atmosphere while supporting the regular parkrun team.

The event will involve the whole club and bring together Blyth Spartans senior management and first team players, Blyth Spartans Women, Blyth Spartans Juniors, volunteers, supporters and sponsors to join the wider local community for a unique morning promoting fitness, wellbeing and community spirit.

parkrun is a free weekly 5k community event held every Saturday at 9am and has become one of the UK's most successful grassroots participation movements. Since launching in 2004 with just 13 runners and five volunteers, parkrun has grown into a worldwide organisation operating in more than 20 countries with millions of participants.

Closer to home, Blyth Links parkrun has become one of the North East's most popular community events, welcoming more than 14,000 individual participants and recording over 82,000 finishes since it began.

Blyth Spartans AFC are proud to support the parkrun community and are excited to work alongside the Blyth Links parkrun organisers to deliver what promises to be a fantastic community occasion.

The takeover will see members from across all areas of the football club assisting with volunteering roles including marshalling, barcode scanning and finish funnel support, while also encouraging participation from supporters and residents across Blyth and the surrounding areas.

The club is encouraging all Spartans supporters, sponsors and members of the community to come along and get involved - whether by running, walking, volunteering or simply showing their support on the day.

Supporters are also encouraged to wear green and white to help create a strong Blyth Spartans presence throughout the event.

Paul Norvell, Director at Blyth Spartans AFC, said:

We're incredibly excited to be working alongside the Blyth Links parkrun team for this special takeover event.

This is a fantastic opportunity to bring together all areas of Blyth Spartans AFC alongside the wider community in a really positive and inclusive environment.

The values of parkrun - participation, volunteering, wellbeing and community spirit - are values that strongly align with our football club and what we want Blyth Spartans to represent.

We would love to see as many supporters, sponsors, families and local residents as possible joining us on the day and helping turn the event green and white.

Further information regarding registration, volunteering opportunities and parkrun participation guidance will be shared by the club in the coming weeks.
