Blyth Spartans Juniors join Durham County League
Friday, 25 July 2025
Blyth Spartans are delighted to announce that our junior section will be entering an U18 side into the Durham FA County U18 Saturday League ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Regarded as one of the best youth leagues in the North East, which has seen many current and former Spartans first teamers ply their trade in - the league already hosts U18/U17 sides from the likes of New Hartley Juniors, Gateshead, Morpeth Town, Whitby Town, Hebburn Town, Spennymoor Town, Darlington and Newcastle Blue Star.
U18's manager Patrice Fraval said:
It's been a real journey since I first started this team back in 2017 at U9s. From day one, the goal was always clear — to help develop young players and give them a pathway to senior football. To now see us entering the Durham Football League as an U18 side is something I'm incredibly proud of. Watching the growth of this group over the years — the effort they've put in, the progress they've made, the trophies they won along the way — has been truly special. More than anything, I'm proud of the individuals they're becoming, both on and off the pitch. I'm excited for what's ahead, and grateful to everyone who's supported the journey so far.
Spartans Juniors Chairman Keith Whisson added:
We made the decision this summer to enter our Saturday under 18's into the league to challenge them against top class opposition, as we look to bridge the gap between the juniors and the seniors. This team has been playing at a very high level with the juniors for a few seasons now and won both the Northumberland Football Premier League and County Cup the season before last, as well consistently performing in different cup competitions, reaching finals 3 years running while challenging for the league.
