Blyth Spartans' Club Secretary Colin Blackett to Retire

After what feels like his 47th retirement announcement (give or take), we can finally confirm that Colin Blackett is to step down as Club Secretary, with effect from 30th September.
For anyone with a strong sense of déjà vu, we're fairly sure this one is genuine - although we've all heard that before!
For many years Colin has been the heartbeat of the administration at Blyth Spartans, giving countless hours of his time to keep the club running. His dedication, knowledge and commitment have been invaluable, and the club simply wouldn't be where it is today without his tireless efforts.
Of course, anyone who knows Colin will know that “stepping down” doesn't necessarily mean “staying away.” We're fully expecting him to still know what's going on before everyone else, have an opinion on absolutely everything, wander into conversations he wasn't invited to, and occasionally have the odd huff when things aren't done the way he'd have done them!
Behind the occasional grumble, the well-timed sulk and his legendary inability to completely let go, Colin has always cared deeply about Blyth Spartans. Everything he's done has been because he wants the very best for this football club.
Colin said:
I feel the time is right for me to retire from my role and responsibilities at Blyth Spartans - though I have no intention of disappearing. I have really enjoyed my involvement at the club and have made many friends here.
I am very happy with the direction in which the club is now heading, and am retiring secure in the knowledge that the club is in good hands - and I'll certainly continue as a supporter to enjoy the successes to come
In addition to Colin stepping down, his right-hand man and great friend Bryan Turner has also decided the time is right to retire from his role as General Manager - though like Colin, Bryan will still be a regular presence at Croft Park.

Bryan has provided me with exceptional support over the years. I first asked Bryan to volunteer as a steward, which he did without hesitation. I could not have achieved what I have as Club Secretary without the support he has provided.

On behalf of everyone at Blyth Spartans AFC, we'd like to thank Colin for his incredible service, unwavering commitment and the memories he's created along the way.
While working with Colin on planning his succession, it's become clear that we'll be looking at maybe four or five job descriptions rather than one, such has been the incredible range of work that Colin, with Bryan's support, has undertaken. We're going to need a whole influx of new and capable volunteers to fill the gap Colin will leave behind - so look out for the job adverts in the coming weeks - and we're even more grateful that Colin has agreed to carry on until the end of September to help smooth the handover process.
Enjoy retirement, Colin and Bryan... though we're convinced we'll still be seeing you around Croft Park!
