Blyth Spartans are set for their final pre-season match of the summer as they travel to face Whitby Town.
Colin Myers' side have won two of their three friendly matches on the road and will be hoping to add another as they face the Seasiders at the Towbar Express Stadium.
With the season kicking off against Redcar Athletic on Saturday, August 9, at Croft Park, Spartans will be hoping for a morale-boosting win to send them into the season high on confidence.
The Opposition: Whitby Town
Founded in 1880, Whitby are one of the oldest clubs from the North Riding of Yorkshire.
The Seasiders have spent their entire history in the amateur and semi-professional leagues and currently compete in the Northern Premier League - Premier Division.
Whitby's greatest achievement was arguably reaching the second round proper of the FA Cup twice in three years, in both 1983/84 and 1985/86. The Seasiders also won the FA Vase in the 1996-97 season, beating North Ferriby United 3-0 at Wembley Stadium.
From the Dugout
Whitby Town are managed by a familiar face in the north-east football scene, in Gary Liddle.
A product of Middlesbrough's youth academy, Liddle played alongside Stewart Downing, Lee Cattermole and James Morrison in a side which won the FA Youth Cup in 2003/04.
While he didn't make a first-team appearance for the Boro, Liddle went on to enjoy a successful career in the EFL with Hartlepool United, Bradford City and Carlisle United, amongst others.
Finishing his career with Whitby, Liddle was appointed as manager in October 2024, leading the side to a 16th-place finish in the Northern Premier League - Premier Division.
What has been said?
Spartans boss Colin Myers spoke about refining his squad, ready for the start of the season next weekend.
He said:
Pre-season has been much as expected.
It's been really hard and a learning curve for a lot of the lads, and a lot of them have had to really step up to make this squad.
We've got about 30 players at the moment, and we'll be cutting that squad down in the next couple of weeks, so they've got a week and a half - including the game against Whitby - to stake a claim
