Tow Law v Blyth Spartans | Tuesday, 8 July 2025 - 19:30 | Friendly
Ironworks Road hosted the return to football under Colin Myers' rebuilt Spartans side. With a new-look squad, this pre-season fixture was all-important, with the Spartans squad needing to gel ahead of the forthcoming competitive campaign.
Dan Maw bagged the decisive goal of the game in the 50th minute, a teasing delivery whipped in from the right-hand side, evaded the grasp of the Tow Law keeper, finding the feet of Maw who slotted home.
Tow Law threatened early, with a free header at the back post in the fifth minute forcing a sharp stop from Spartans keeper Matty Cassap. Blyth gradually settled and began asserting control, pushing into the Lawyers' half and stinging the gloves of Tow Law's keeper.
A good run from Arran Wearmouth late in the half, who beat his man and delivered across the goalmouth saw Shay Richardson have a chance on goal from six yards out, his volleyed effort sailed over the bar.
Half time: Tow Law 0-0 Blyth Spartans
It was more of the same from Spartans during the second 45 and Blyth were rewarded through Dan Maw. Maw opened his account in a Blyth shirt, getting on the end of a fine delivery that the Lawyers' keeper failed to deal with, 1-0 Spartans.
Maw nearly doubled his tally ten minutes later, Richardson's work rate won back possession, eventually working the ball to Maw, but the goalscorer couldn't quite sort his feet in time to convert.
Tow Law rallied late, especially on the counterattack, also striking the crossbar from a free kick, but Blyth held firm to secure a 1-0 win.
Full time: Tow Law Town 0-1 Blyth Spartans
