Blyth Spartans head into their fourth game of their Northern Premier League East campaign as they travel to face Silsden at the Regal Interiors Stadium on Saturday.

Colin Myers' side managed to kickstart their season on Tuesday night with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Newton Aycliffe at Croft Park.

Goals from Jack Wilson and Benji Shodeinde secured victory for the Spartans as they put their first points on the board.

Silsden put in a big performance in the FA Cup against Ramsbottom United on Tuesday night as they progressed after extra time and penalties.

After a physically and emotionally exhausting evening, Blyth will be hoping that they can make it back-to-back victories on the road.

The Opposition: Silsden

Based in West Yorkshire, Silsden were founded in 1904.

Nicknamed the Cobbydalers, they play in the 1500-capacity Regal Interiors Stadium.

Silsden were crowned champions of the Northern Counties East Premier Division last season and will be hoping to consolidate their place in the Northern Premier League East this term.

So far, they've drawn one and lost one of their two league fixtures.

What has been said?

Colin Myers spoke about the feeling inside the dressing room after Tuesday's win and how the team can build on that performance.

He said:

The players are bouncing. We had the fans' forum, and I said that we deserved better than we've had, and hopefully this is just the start, and we can start kicking on from here.

The win over Newton Aycliffe is a big confidence boost for the lads; they're buzzing, so let's kick on from here. This is just the start.

That result has given us a boost of confidence and showed that they can do it. Hopefully, we can take that into the next two games, and we'll get some results.

I'm just going to keep pushing them and pushing them to see what we can get out of these lads.

Hopefully, it's the start of moving in the right direction.

What to Expect

Blyth Spartans will be well up for this one following their victory on Tuesday night.

The scenes of celebration at Croft Park after the final whistle showed just how much the three points meant to Colin Myers and his team, with players and staff doing a lap of honour for the fans who had turned out in the wind and rain to support their team.

Jack Wilson - a player signed as a central defender - was tasked with playing up front and caused plenty of problems with his physicality, and put the Spartans ahead with a powerful effort before later slotting back into defence to help see out the game.

Benji Shodeinde was a nightmare for Newton Aycliffe's defenders all night as he used his pace and tireless work ethic to put them under pressure throughout as he came in off the left flank.

Jack Vaulks was hugely impressive on his debut, while Jesse Gomez also made his debut off the bench during the second half.

With confidence up, Blyth are certain to pose problems for Silsden on Saturday.
