Blyth Spartans kick off their FA Cup campaign with a trip to West Yorkshire as they prepare to face off against Pontefract Collieries.

Spartans have made many memories in this prestigious competition and can view this tie as an opportunity to kickstart their season after back-to-back league defeats.

Colin Myers' side suffered heartbreak midweek against Consett AFC; however, they will be able to take confidence from their performance, which saw them take the lead in the game before 10-man Blyth fell to defeat late on.

The Opposition: Pontefract Collieries

Pontefract Collieries were formed in 1958, nicknamed The Colls, and currently play their football in the Northern Premier League East, the same division as Spartans.

The Colls are affiliated to the West Riding County Football Association and Castleford & District Football Association.

Pontefract have started the season in fine form, with an unbeaten start to the league campaign and will look to continue their cup run after knocking out Newcastle Benfield in the previous round.

One to Watch

The Colls have been prolific in front of goal this season, scoring at least twice in each competitive game so far.

Forward Bailey Thompson is one Spartans must keep an eye on, already netting three goals in the league campaign.

The 23-year-old has made plenty appearances at this level and beyond, he will no doubt be a handful for the back line.

From the Dugout

Pontefract are managed by Jimmy Williams, who took charge of the team at the beginning of last season.

Williams represented The Colls as a player, where he achieved back-to-back promotions to the Northern Premier League.

He will be looking for similar success as manager and would be looking at going one step further than last season's FA Cup run, which saw The Colls knocked out at this stage.

What has been said?

After defeat in midweek, Colin Myers was asked about his side's performance.

He said:

We started brightly; we knew we had a point to prove. The lads absolutely stepped up tonight, and I'm absolutely devastated for them. The lads had put a shift and a half in, we had a great following, gave the fans something to cheer, and we deserved something from the game.

The lads are a resilient bunch, and they'll come back on Saturday big and strong.

You can follow all of the action on Saturday afternoon via our social media platforms and BlythLive on Mixlr from 2:45pm.
