Blyth Spartans make the trip to West Yorkshire as they prepare to face off against Pontefract Collieries for the second time this season.
The Spartans were knocked out of the FA Cup in the previous meeting after a late goal separated the two sides.
Colin Myers' side were defeated in midweek at home to Heaton Stannington. The Spartans found themselves 4-0 down and a player short, but with 20 minutes to play, the hosts remarkably brought the game back to a one-goal deficit, which saw a Stan player sent off and a penalty converted by Benji Shodeinde; however, it was not enough to salvage a point in the end.
The Opposition: Pontefract Collieries
Pontefract Collieries were formed in 1958, nicknamed The Colls. The West Yorkshire side is affiliated to the West Riding County Football Association and Castleford & District Football Association.
Pontefract find themselves in 7th position in the Northern Premier League East Division after a good start to the season. They had success in midweek away to Grimsby Borough, which broke their winless streak of four games (1 Draw 3 Defeats), and will be looking to push on from that victory.
One to Watch
The Colls player to watch for this weekend is Alfie Perry, the defender was brought in on loan from Boston United.
He was the man of the match in The Colls' victory over Grimsby Borough. Playing the full 90 minutes and keeping a clean sheet in the process for the first time since August 19, when they played Consett AFC.
From the Dugout
Pontefract is managed by Jimmy Williams, who took charge of the team at the beginning of last season.
Williams represented The Colls as a player, where he achieved back-to-back promotions to the Northern Premier League.
He will be impressed with The Colls' league position and most recent victory, which gives Pontefract something to build on as they return to the Ingfield Stadium to face Spartans.
What has been said?
After the defeat in midweek, Colin Myers was asked about his side's performance:
I want to first of all apologise to all the fans, I take full responsibility for it as I always do.
The performance in the second half was a lot better, but I haven't taken any positives out of the game at all.
There has to be a massive improvement before Saturday. We have a lot to think about in the coming days, but we have to go to Pontefract and win.
