Pontefract Collieries v Blyth Spartans | Saturday, 11 October 2025 - 15:00 | League

“We should have had a point out of it, we have thrown it away”, said Blyth Spartans' manager Colin Myers after his side succumbed to a 2-1 defeat away at Pontefract Collieries on Saturday afternoon.
Blyth opened the scoring through new-man Euan Potts on the 36th minute, capitalising on a wayward back pass to put Spartans in the driver's seat. Pontefract however equalised on the brink of half-time through Frankie Sinfield.
The Colls went on to take all three points after Sinfield converted a penalty with six minutes to play of the 90.
“We looked to sit back and hit them on the break”, Myers added on how he set up his side to approach the first half, and that gameplan looked to come to fruition as Potts gave Spartans the advantage just over half an hour in as he tapped home following a defensive error.
Myers on Potts: “he's worked his socks off, he did exactly what we asked him to do, I'm really pleased he's got his first goal”.
The Colls however got back on level terms on the 46th minute, a fizzed delivery was headed home by Sinfield from three yards out leaving in-form Callum Dobson with no chance.

The second half was evenly contested until the 84th minute where defender Jake Dobinson gave away a “stone-wall penalty” said Myers, “you can't grab somebody in the box, he's not going anywhere, up to that point we had a point in the bag”
After going down, Myers said, “It was a strong reaction from the lads, but there was nothing to lose at that point”. Pontefract saw out the remainder and took all three points.
Myers went on to talk on the support from the travelling fans, “I can understand their disappointment, I care about this club, I'm passionate about this club and I'm absolutely gutted it's not going the way we want it to go, but we have to keep fighting.”
