North Ferriby v Blyth Spartans | Saturday, 6 September 2025 - 15:00 | League

A tight and cagey encounter at the Versa Sportswear Stadium saw Blyth Spartans exit the FA Trophy in the first round qualifying.

The only goal in the game came just before the break, a mix-up at the back from Spartans allowed Myron Gibbons to break through and smash the ball into the roof of the net, giving The Villagers the advantage.

The first half offered little to no chances from either side, with both teams setting their defences up resolutely and not giving anything away, it felt like the final ball was missing from both sides causing the game to be very edgy.

Big challenges were committed towards the end of the first half with the referee dishing out six yellow cards, resulting in North Ferriby being reduced to 10 men as Jack Johnson stopped Dean Briggs from breaking away on a counterattack, moments before the hosts took the lead.

The Spartans pushed on in the second half with the extra man advantage, but some positive changes from manager Colin Myers were still not enough to pull level in the game.

The best of the chances fell to Jack Wilson and Zach Simpson, who could only fire their shots wide of the mark after some positive build-up play leading to the efforts.

Unfortunately, Blyth just did not trouble The Villagers' defence enough throughout the 90. Overall, a disappointing afternoon on what could have been a good run in a very prestigious cup.
