Blyth Spartans return to league action as they prepare to head on a lengthy away trip, facing off against Grimsby Borough.
The Spartans will look to take confidence into this matchup after their midweek game against Blyth Town in the Northumberland Senior Cup was abandoned due to a floodlight failure.
Colin Myers' side led 2-0 in the opening 25 minutes of that game through brilliant goals from Dan Maw and Jack Chapman, and looked comfortable before the abandonment of the match.
The Opposition: Grimsby Borough
Grimsby Borough were founded in 2003, joining the Lincolnshire leagues, finishing as runners-up in their very first season.
After joining the Premier Division of the Central Midlands League, they finished runners-up twice before being promoted to the Supreme Division, where they finished twelfth and were admitted to the Northern Counties East League.
2011/12 saw Borough victorious in the league's Wilkinson Sword Trophy; however, a poor season in 2014/15 resulted in conceding 161 goals across the year.
They were not relegated that season and managed to qualify for the play-offs just two seasons later, where they lost out in the final 4-2.
They bounced back in 2018/19, becoming Division One champions and earning promotion to the Premier Division, where they remained for three seasons before becoming champions and earning their spot in the Northern Premier League East for the 2022/23 season.
Player to Watch
Arun Jones is a standout player for Grimsby Borough. The defender has only recently come back into the squad but has already made a big impact.
Jones' first match back for Borough was a 6-1 defeat; however, he was Grimsby's best performer, showing lots of energy up and down the flank.
He claimed the man of the match in that game and also picked up their September Player of the Month award.
He will be full of confidence and will be looking to continue Grimsby's fantastic start to the season.
From the Dugout
Dan Barrett is the Grimsby Borough manager and has entered his 10th consecutive season in the home side's dugout.
He has overseen more than 400 games under his leadership, taking Borough from the bottom of the Lincs leagues to the Northern Premier League, the highest point in the club's history.
Barrett will be delighted with Grimsby's start to the season as they sit just inside the play-off positions, fifth place to be exact, and are staking their claim to be a contender to move up divisions come the end of the season.
