Garforth Town v Blyth Spartans | Saturday, 30 August 2025 - 15:00 | League

In a hard-fought contest under blustery skies, Blyth Spartans secured their first league away win of the season with two crucial goals after the break to defeat Garforth Town 2-0 at The Bannister Prentice Stadium.

Late goals from Jesse Gomez and Benjamin Shodeinde took the three points back to Blyth after a resolute defensive display.

The first half offered scant clear-cut chances, as both sides struggled to find any real rhythm in the whipping wind. Garforth enjoyed long spells of possession but failed to convert territorial dominance into meaningful openings. Blyth, set up compactly, frustrated the home side and remained solid at the back at half-time.

Garforth found an opening on the 70th minute as their striker was played in behind, however, goalkeeper Callum Dobson was up to the task and kept his clean sheet in tact.

With the wind slightly increasing after the break, Spartans found their momentum. Jesse Gomez, introduced after 20 minutes, capitalised on the first real chance of the game - powering a sweet strike into the bottom corner in the 82nd minute to break the deadlock.

Garforth pushed for an equaliser, but it was Blyth who struck again. In stoppage time, Jack Wilson plucked the ball out of the sky and slid through Benjamin Shodeinde who raced onto the through ball and calmly slotted home in the 90+2nd minute to seal the win.

The Spartans' defence held firm for the remainder and saw out their clean sheet and the three points which sees Spartans enter the top half of the Northern Premier League East.
