Blyth Spartans return to league action after progressing to the next round of the FA Cup as they travel to Consett AFC.

Spartans are still yet to claim their first league win this season after being held to draws against Dunston and Bridlington and losing to Silsden in their opening three fixtures.

Spartans defeated Morpeth Town 2-1 in the Northumberland Derby at the weekend, an Olly Martin double was enough for progression despite a late consolation goal from the visitors.

The Opposition: Consett AFC

Consett also known as The Steelmen have struggled for form at the beginning of this season losing both of their league games to Dunston and Ossett United 1-0.

Despite being taken to a replay The Steelmen defeated North Shields in the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup before being knocked out by Northern League Division One side Marske United on Saturday.

Former Spartan Jesse Gomez could feature in Consett’s lineup having played all five of The Steelmen's fixtures so far this season.

From the Dugout: Jason Miller

Jason Miller was appointed Consett manager in September 2024 after the resignation of Tony Fawcett.

Miller was previously part of Hebburn Town’s coaching set up as a goalkeeper coach when they won the FA Vase in 2021, current Spartans forward Olly Martin scored the winner against Consett at Wembley to settle the thrilling final.

Miller is also part of Newcastle Elite Academy (NEA) which was set up by former Newcastle United players, Rob Elliot, Paul Dummett, Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle.

Spartans were still awaiting their first win under the new manager Marc Nash which would be delayed another week as Consett repeated the scoreline from the reverse fixture at Croft Park.

A quick start from the visitors saw Isaac Walker strike home in the 10th minute from close range.

The visitors doubled their lead after half time an error at the back from Spartans allowed Walker to square the ball to his strike partner Donny Holdsworth who slotted home in the 50th minute.

Spartans did claim a consolation goal through Jack Foalle in the 70th minute but it wasn’t enough to stop the Steelmen completing the league double over Marc Nash’s’ side.
