Blyth Spartans head into the Blyth Derby on the back of a huge win against Silsden at Croft Park less than 48 hours ago.

Paul Van-Zandvliet scored his fifth goal this season and stepped up in the absence of top goalscorer Jack Foalle to help Spartans to victory.

Spartans now look to a clash at Gateway Park against their rivals Blyth Town in a bid to secure their safety in the NPL East.

The Hosts: Blyth Town

Blyth Town were looking to revive their season and had been on a fantastic unbeaten run until their recent 7-0 defeat to Bridlington Town.

Despite their defeat on Saturday they are a point below Ossett United and a victory against their rivals could see them lifted out of the relegation zone.

They have only lost 2 of their last seven league matches and will be looking to put themself in control of their own destiny heading into the final three league games this season.

The Visitors: Blyth Spartans

Spartans 1-0 victory over Silsden was their sixth without defeat at Croft Park which lifted them to 15th in the NPL East division.

A victory on Monday would all but secure their place in the NPL East for next season; it would leave Spartans needing just a single point from their final three matches.

A huge test awaits the green and white army but they will be out for revenge after a disappointing New Year's Day defeat to their rivals.

Last time out: Blyth Spartans 1-2 Blyth Town

The new year was upon both sides in Blyth who were lingering below the dotted line, the first ever league meeting between the sides meant not only bragging rights were at stake but a chance to claim crucial points in the relegation scrap.

First half chances were limited but Blyth Town broke the deadlock in the 27th minute as Adam Johnson converted a devastating counter attack.

Blyth Town then doubled their lead in the second half through former Spartan Nathan Buddle who nodded home from a corner.

Spartans were awarded a late route back into the game from the penalty spot after Charlie Wood was fouled, Michael Fowler stepped up and converted but it wasn't enough to salvage anything from the game.
