Blyth Spartans welcome Newcastle Blue Star to Croft Park for the second time this season as the sides face off in the Northumberland Senior Cup.

Spartans will be looking to improve on their performance in the competition last season as they were knocked out by local rivals Blyth Town at the first possible opportunity.

Blyth extended their unbeaten home record with Paul Dudgeon’s early goal the difference between Spartans and Lincoln United.

The Visitors: Newcastle Blue Star

Newcastle Blue Star currently sit 12th in the EBAC Northern League Division One picking up 18 points from their opening 15 games.

Their last league match was on Friday night where they defeated local rivals Newcastle Benfield 5-1, thanks to a Jakub Zych double and a Josh Follin hat trick.

Despite that emphatic result Blue Star have struggled for form recently with the win against Benfield being their first in seven matches after failing to register a win in September.

Last Time Out: Blyth Spartans 2-0 Newcastle Blue Star.

Dan Lanning and Jack Foalle scored to help Blyth progress in the FA Cup in their first competitive fixture of the season.

Blyth started well and almost took the lead through Lanning as he latched onto a ball over the Blue Star defence and lobbed the keeper but his effort was cleared off the line.

Blue Star created a good opportunity to take the lead with the ball making its way to Jakub Zych on the edge of the area he curled a shot towards goal forcing a save out of Mauro Asikaogu.

Blyth took the lead in the 75th minute as Lanning once again latched onto a ball in behind the defence and chopped back onto his left foot before slotting home calmly.

The win was sealed in the 88th minute as Lanning found Foalle in the 18 yard box with a clever pass allowing Foalle to slam the ball home sending Spartans into the next round.
