Blyth Spartans return to league action after their 4-2 defeat against Workington AFC in the FA Trophy Third Round Qualifying.

Jordan Summerly and Paul Van-Zandvliet were on the scoresheet for Spartans on Saturday but it wasn’t enough to defeat higher league opposition and advance to the first round proper.

Spartans will be looking to maintain their fantastic home record; they are unbeaten this season in all competitions and have only lost one of their last 15 at Croft Park.

The Visitors: Heaton Stannington

Heaton Stannington also known as The Stan, currently sit 5th in the Northern Premier League East Division amassing 15 points from their opening 10 games.

The Stan were victorious on the weekend defeating Grimsby Borough 2-0 at The Willow Park with Sado Djalo scoring both goals in the first half.

The fixture is evenly poised with both teams picking up 10 points from their last six fixtures, a chance for Spartans to move one point behind the Stan or a chance for the visitors to cement their current spot in the play offs.

From The Dugout: Dean Nicholson

Dean was appointed manager of Heaton Stannington in June 2021 alongside his assistant Andy McBride.

Since then they have worked together and formed the success of The Stan which saw them promoted from the Northern League in 2023/24 and Northumberland Senior Cup winners for the first time in 2024/25.

They were unable to retain their title despite reaching the final for the second consecutive year as former Spartan Mauro Asikaogu was the hero in the 6-5 penalty shootout win for Whitley Bay.

Last Time Out: Heaton Stannington 1-1 Blyth Spartans.

Spartans were held to a draw at The Willow Park in late February after Jack Foalle’s early goal was cancelled out by Dale Pearson.

Spartans started brightly and were rewarded in the 8th minute, Zach Simpson picked out the run of Jack Foalle with a sumptuous pass and Foalle converted with ease.

The conditions forced both teams to play long and Heaton grew into the game after falling behind, the were rewarded in the 22nd minute as Dale Pearson's deflected effort found its way past Callum Dobson.

Spartans thought they had retaken the lead moments after half time but Jordan Summerly's strike rebounded off the post keeping the score level.
