Blyth Spartans v Grimsby Borough | Saturday, 17 January 2026 - 15:00 | League

Spartans ran riot at Croft Park thanks to a three-goal flurry in under 10 minutes to make it back-to-back wins for Marc Nash's men, producing their best performance of the season and carrying on their goalscoring surge, making it eight goals in two games.

Blyth carried on from where they left off against Bridlington on Tuesday, with an early chance in the first 15 minutes through Jack Foalle, whose lobbed attempt missed by inches, landing safely on the roof of the net, much to the delight of Scott Drury in goal for Grimsby.

Blyth's hard work would finally pay off when Paul Van Zandvliet broke the deadlock just before the break. Jordan Summerly found Jack Foalle with a lovely ball on the left-hand side, who then picked out Van-Zandvliet at the back post to tap home into an empty net to give Spartans a deserved lead.

Into added time, it looked like Spartans could've had a penalty when Michael Fowler was brought down in the box, but referee Thomas James waved it away, and as play continued, Van-Zandvliet, looking for his brace, struck the post, and Grimsby Borough only went in 1-0 down.

Half time: Blyth Spartans 1-0 Grimsby Borough

Just before the hour mark, Spartans would have their deserved second. Summerly was at the heart of it again with another delicious delivery into the box, which found Foalle at the back post. Foalle would see his header saved well by Scott Drury in goal for Grimsby, but his parry was not strong enough, and it fell straight at the feet of Michael Fowler, who pounced on it to extend the lead.

Blyth would add a third just minutes later when Rio Joisce laid it off to Zach Simpson on the edge of the box, and the youngster let rip first time, and his shot flew into the net, leaving Drury in goal no chance and sending the Green Army into dreamland.

Under five minutes later Spartans would have their fourth and final goal. Foalle slipped in right back, Andy Evans, who had made a great run on the overlap, and his first-time delivery into the box was met by the oncoming Fowler, who smashed home for his second of the game, sealing Blyth's first win at Croft Park since October.
