Team News

Spartans are hopeful that JJ Hooper will return after missing the Workington game through illness.

What We're Saying

Speaking after his side's defeat against Workington, Spartans boss Michael Connor said, “It's individual errors that have cost us. We got ourselves back in the game at 2-1, we created another chance just after it. Then we've had a throw in and gave the ball away, they got a free kick off the back of it and scored.”

“We're ravaged by injuries, and we're trying to put players into a team and trying to mould it, which is hard when you're under pressure. I'm not going to stand here and criticise my players at all, because they're doing the best they can. As manager I take responsibility, but I saw a lot of positives - I thought Leon Burke has lit the game up with what he did in midfield for a young lad at this level.”

“I thought the structure was much better, I though the midfield was better, but again you look at the scoring. At 2-1 we're thinking we're in it but then at 4-1 you're thinking here we go again.”

Opposition

Gainsborough currently sit in 12th in the Northern Premier League on 45 points, with two games in hand on the teams around them.

The Holy Blues have enjoyed more success in the cups, getting to the Second Round of the FA Cup where they lost 1-0 to League Two Harrogate Town, as well as the Fifth Round of the FA Trophy where they were knocked out by National League side Woking.

Last time out they beat Bamber Bridge at Northolme, with first-half goals from Declan Howe and Javelle Clarke helping the hosts to a 2-1 win.

What They're Saying

Speaking after his side's win over Bamber Bridge, Gainsborough manager Russ Wilcox said, “I thought the structure was much better, I though the midfield was better, but again you look at the scoring. At 2-1 we're thinking we're in it but then at 4-1 you're thinking here we go again.”

“The importance of the result outweighs the performance in my eyes, because we've always got half an eye on the bottom four. We've got a bit of a buffer now but we want to finish the season really well, we've got 10 games left and want to win as many as we possibly can without having to look over our shoulder again.”

Last Time We Met

The sides last met just over three weeks ago, with Spartans suffering a heavy 5-1 defeat at Northolme.
