Our second home match in six days sees Blyth Spartans welcome Consett AFC to Croft Park for our next NPL East game.

Paul Dudgeon's late debut equaliser salvaged a point in last Saturday's clash with Hallam, after Andy Evans saw red early in the second half.

Blyth manager Marc Nash will be hoping to see a similar spirited performance that was shown in the second half of that game as he looks to earn his first victory in the Spartans dugout.

The Hosts: Blyth Spartans

Spartans had to dig deep against Hallam to salvage a point late on but it was a much improved second half performance which impressed manager Marc Nash.

A similar story in so many games this season for the home side, getting close but not getting over the line and dropping too many points.

With the gap to safety now at seven points, a win for Spartans would not only be huge in terms of closing the gap but also giving belief and confidence to the side that they have the quality to compete with any team in the league.

An impressive debut from Paul Dudgeon saw him claim his first goal for the club, nodding home Zach Simpson's shot which deflected off the post.

Despite being a man down in the second half the hosts looked the more likely side to push on and win the game and they will need to bring the same intensity and quality to the start of tomorrow's 7:45pm KO as Spartans know how resolute Consett will be.

The Visitors: Consett AFC

The Visitors come into this game after beating Silsden on Tuesday night 4-1 remaining unbeaten in their last three matches after also drawing with Redcar Athletic and Bradford (Park Avenue).

With the visitors now sitting in 12th place after their victory in midweek they are still only four points above the relegation zone due to the league table being tight and changing every week.

Consett will want to avoid being dragged into the scrap and they could extend the gap with a win on Friday night and make it back to back wins in the league for the first time since September.

Last Time Out: Consett AFC 2-1 Blyth Spartans

The second game of the NPL East season was the last time these two sides met and both were looking to make up for disappointing opening day defeats.

Spartans made the brighter start taking the lead in the 33rd minute as Benji Shodeinde latched onto a ball in-behind the Consett defence and calmly slotted the ball past Harry Moss.

However, Consett came out fighting in the second half and were rewarded with an equaliser, Matty Todd guided the ball into the bottom left corner blowing the game wide open.

Jake Dobinson, now playing his football at Consett, was dismissed after picking up a second yellow card with just ten minutes left of the 90 meaning Spartans' task became extremely difficult.

It was late joy for Consett as their pressure finally paid off in the 94th minute, Eddie Thomas converting after a hectic goalmouth scramble wasn't dealt with well enough by Spartans.
