What We're Saying
After a defeat on the road to Macclesfield, Michael Connor said:
We had a game plan, we knew it was going to be tough, we knew what they had, how they work as a team and why they are at the top of the league. But the first 40 seconds just killed us. We haven't defended a corner and we haven't closed down. They've had opportunities to shoot and score, we've then dwelled on the ball for the second and then the third on the 14th minute, Adam saved the first shot, but it spun out for them and went in the back of the net. So it's 3-0 down and the game is technically over, just damage limitation. We should've had a penalty before halftime and their keeper admitted it to be fair; would a sending-off make any difference, probably not.
Opposition
The Brig's were set to play against Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday, but was postponed due to the weather, however, they played midweek in a 3-2 win over Chorley in the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy.
Their last league match was on November 9, when they lost 3-2 away from home to Matlock Town. This loss left them 16th in the league standings.
What They're Saying
After their last outing, Assistant Manager John Hills said:
We have got a few games now to catch up on other sides in the league, so we need to start picking up points and it's going to be a massive game on Saturday. Over the last couple of games really things have started to click, I thought it was the best we've played for a while against higher opposition on Saturday, we just couldn't stick it in the net. We've scored 3 tonight so we'll be looking to take that into the league.
Last Time We Met
The sides last met in April 2005 when the Spartans travelled to the then-named Irongate Ground, now renamed Sir Tom Finney Stadium, to win 3-1.
