Blyth Spartans kick off their 26/27 pre-season campaign on Saturday afternoon with a trip north to face Berwick Rangers at Shielfield Park.

This is the first opportunity for fans to see Marc Nash's new look squad ahead of the upcoming season with nine signings being welcomed to Croft Park over the summer as they look to build team cohesion and match sharpness.

Among the new faces brought it is striker Dan Lanning, coming off the back of an excellent season for Newcastle Blue Star notching 27 goals in all competitions and boasts an incredible goalscoring record across his four seasons with the Northern League side scoring 118 goals in 179 appearances, fan favourite Rhys Evans has also rejoined the club from Morpeth Town and could lineup in a very experienced back line for Spartans this afternoon.

The Opposition: Berwick Rangers

Berwick Rangers were founded in 1884 and have played their football in the Scottish Lowland Football League since being relegated in the 2018/19 season.

Famously referred to as the only English side competing in Scotland, Berwick have been active in the transfer market over the summer, talented young goalkeeper Owen Hayward will be tasked with stopping Spartans scoring whilst Midfielder Caelan McCrone has rejoined the club after the expiry of his contract with Falkirk.

Berwick have also brought UEFA A licensed coach Banji Koya into their backroom staff outlining the clubs ambition for the upcoming season.

From the Dugout:

Kevin Haynes will lead Berwick into the 26/27 season after joining the club as manager in January 2025 from Dunbar United.

The former Berwick Rangers player made over 50 appearances notching 22 goals and played a key role in their 2006/07 SPFL Division 3 title win.

Haynes guided Berwick to a top half finish last season and will be looking to start pre-season on a high as they look to improve on that result this season.
