Blyth Spartans final game of 2025 is the 'Spine Road derby' against Ashington AFC.

Blyth head into this game on the back of a defeat last Friday at Croft Park at the hands of 10-man Consett AFC.

With two crucial fixtures coming up, Spartans will be looking to gain vital points against their old rivals and head into the new year in positive form.

The Hosts: Ashington AFC

Ashington come into this game on red hot form winning their last four league matches.

Recent results have seen the Colliers climb up to 13th in the league table, six points clear of the relegation zone.

Ashington's attacking threat is clear to see scoring 10 goals in their last four outings, combined with their defensive solidity also keeping two clean sheets in the same period. They have all the attributes to cause Spartans problems and make it five wins in a row in the NPL East.

The Visitors: Blyth Spartans

Blyth were once again punished for poor defensive errors and lack of clinical edge in front of goal in their last outing.

Despite having an extra man advantage for the final quarter of an hour they were unable to convert and slipped to another disappointing defeat.

Despite the poor result, Jack Foalle picked up his first goal in Spartans colours and will be looking to build on his positive performance by guiding Spartans to a vital victory against an old foe.

Team News

Andy Evans will be suspended for our Boxing Day clash due to his red card he picked up against Hallam FC.

Our Gibraltarians: Jesse Gomez, Jeremy Perera, and Paddy McClafferty have all returned to Gibraltar to visit their families over the festive break. Therefore, are not available for selection.

What's at stake:

Ashington are looking to extend their winning run to five games in a row and create more breathing space between themselves and the relegation zone, they are playing with confidence and it's showing in their recent results.

They will prove to be difficult opposition for Spartans and will see this game as a massive opportunity to maintain their excellent home form having only lost two games at Woodhorn Lane this season.

As for Blyth they can see this as an opportunity to get revenge on the Colliers for the earlier result this season and more than that this is another opportunity for Spartans to pick up their first victory under Marc Nash.

Blyth must be more clinical when they get opportunities and improve their solidity from the back if they are to end Ashington's winning run. They have the quality within the squad to do it and one result can inject confidence and change the trajectory of the season for Spartans.

Last Time Out: Blyth Spartans 1-1 Ashington AFC

The points were shared earlier in the season when the two sides met at Croft Park after Sam Davison bundled in a 98th minute equaliser for Ashington denying Spartans a crucial victory.

A cagey game saw limited chances in the first half but it was the hosts who broke the deadlock in the second half through Paddy McClafferty.

Spartans pushed on, trying to double their lead but ultimately lacked conviction and were unable to capitalise.

In doing so they left themselves exposed at the back and with Ashington throwing everything at Blyth in the dying moments they were rewarded with their equaliser at the death salvaging what would prove to be a crucial point at that stage of the season.
