TEAM NEWS

Shaun Vipond and Glen Taylor are still out injured, although Taylor now has his cast off and is near to a return to light training. Phil Bannister is also near to a return, but it is not known whether or not he will be named in Saturday’s squad.

Despite a second dismissal against Stalybridge, Wayne Phillips is available for this FA Cup tie. However, if a replay is needed, Phillips would miss that game – as part of his four-game suspension.

New signing Richard Offiong will hope he receives Internation Clearance in time to be involved.

Bedlington’s Steven Richardson is a doubt through injury, but will hope he has done enough in training this week to put himself in contention for a place in the Terriers’ squad.

Latest starting line-ups:

Blyth Spartans (0-4 v Corby Town, September 24): Knight, Groves, Cave, Jones, Coulson (Anzevui), Buchanan, Slaughter, Hooks, Armstrong, Emms (Pearson), Alexander (Mason). Subs not used: Crook, Hunter.

Bedlington Terriers (1-0 v Northallerton Town, September 24): N/A

MATCH PREVIEW

Blyth Spartans begin what they hope will be another successive run in the FA Cup, when they welcome local rivals Bedlington Terriers to Croft Park this weekend.

Spartans will look to repeat the result of the two sides’ only other meeting in a competition synonymous with the club – when Blyth triumphed 3-1 in the Third Qualifying Round of the 1995/96 season – on Saturday afternoon.

As well as playing for local “Bragging rights,” a number of current Terriers’ players will be looking to get one over on their former employers, with no less than seven ex-Spartans in the playing squad – in addition to joint manager Tony Lowery, who is a former assistant manager at Croft Park.

Please note: if a replay is required, this will take place at Welfare Park on Wednesday October 5 (kick off 7:45pm.)

DANGER MAN

Anthony Shandran

“Shandy” is a talented striker, in his second spell with the club.

Formerly of Burnley, York, Gateshead, Newcastle Blue Star and Newcastle Benfield, he re-signed for Terriers during the 2007/08 campaign and is one of the biggest reasons why the club avoided relegation.

The former Spartan has amassed an impressive 19 goals so far for Terriers this season, from just 11 games.
