Arrival | Josh Gillies joins Blyth Spartans

Blyth Spartans AFC is delighted to announce the arrival of Josh Gillies following his departure from South Shields.

Gillies, 30, has put pen to paper on a one-year deal at Croft Park – and is the ninth player to commit his future to the club for the upcoming season.

The former England C international enjoyed a brief spell with Blyth under Mick Tait before making his name at the likes of Carlisle United, Gateshead, Darlington and South Shields.

Gillies spent the last two seasons at Mariners Park – scoring 17 times in 63 appearances as they chased Northern Premier League promotion.

Michael Nelson, manager of Blyth Spartans, said: “Josh has experience playing at a higher level and is a consistent performer. He is an exciting player to watch as he is very good technically.

“His delivery from the wide position and creativity to provide assists are a big strength. He also has excellent quality from dead ball situations.

“I’m delighted to have been able to get him on board.”

Gillies added: “I spoke to the manager last season but I ended up signing back at South Shields.

“I went to meet him for a quick chat and everything went well, so he played a big part in my decision to sign.”
