News | Foden joins Consett on short loan

Blyth Spartans goalkeeper Mark Foden has joined Northern League Division One side Consett AFC on a short loan.

Foden, who joined from Gateshead in the summer, played every game in pre-season before picking up a hip injury on the eve of the campaign.

The 23-year-old was expected to be out for longer than anticipated, hence the arrival of Nathan Harker from Newcastle United.

Instead, Foden has made a swift recovery and has been loaned to Consett in order to gain minutes at a competitive level.

Foden will play for the Steelman on Friday when they host Thornaby and will return to Croft Park after their Tuesday night fixture at Ryhope CW.

“He is going to be playing two games, Friday night and Tuesday. I want him to be ready and keep his eye in,” said manager Lee Clark.

“We haven’t had a sub keeper on the bench, so it means Mark can go out and play competitive games.

“From a total selfless point of view, me the manager, I am having my two goalkeepers play competitive games over the next few days.”
