Shaun Vipond has called on his Spartans team-mates to put tonight’s home defeat to Chorley behind them quickly as they prepare to welcome Workington to Croft Park this coming Saturday. The Reds are next up for Spartans in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round and midfielder Vipond expects his side to recover. He said “Tonight is obviously very disappointing, being one up at half time you expect to go on and win the game but sadly we didn’t and sometimes football can be like that. We have to now pick ourselves up before a massive game this Saturday against Workington. We know where we have to improve after tonight and it’s down to us to make sure we do that in training and prepare for the game on Saturday.”
Not only is Saturday a big game for the club but it is a big game for Vipond personally having spent three separate spells with the Borough Park club who currently sit mid-table in the Blue Square North. However Vipond was keen to stress that it was all about the club rather than his own personal feelings. The Carlisle born midfielder said “It’s a massive game and yes it’s my old club but it’s not about that. Everyone at this club wants to do well in the FA Cup, it’s a chance to go far and play at some big grounds. That’s what every footballer dreams of as a little kid and yes it’s a little bit special for me being my former club but it’s about getting this club into the next round”.
