Spartans keeper Conor Grant feels that the slow start that his side made to the second half ultimately cost them a chance of taking all three points in tonight’s 1-3 home defeat to Chorley. The former Gretna and Dundee United man was helpless as he conceded two goals inside the first ten minutes that saw Spartans half time lead wiped out. He commented “We went in one up at half time and came out knowing we had to keep it solid. We gave two sloppy goals away early in the second half and it’s killed us and the third goal was one that we couldn’t recover from”.
Grant did feel that the decision to give Chorley defender Andrew Teague a yellow card for a foul on Craig Farrell who was clear through on goal maybe started to turn the tide in the direction of the Magpies. “It was at the point that we were on top, we looked threatening on the counter attack and if they go down to ten men it’s a totally different game but the referee hasn’t given the decision and that’s part of the game isn’t it, you just have to accept it”.
However the Spartans stopper feels that his side have to recover quickly before Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Croft Park against Workington but feels that such a big game coming so quickly might be a good thing for the team. “We need to pick ourselves back up and get ready for a massive game on Saturday. It’s probably the best thing for us to not have to wait another week for a game and we can get right back into it for what is a big game for this club and everyone connected to it”.
