Tom talks – after the Trafford game

Tom Wade, Manager of the Spartans, was delighted with his side’s showing in the 4-1 victory at Trafford on Tuesday evening.

“”It was a great team performance,” he said. “We played some lovely football at times on a fantastic pitch which encouraged our passing game. Nipa [Dan Maguire] was extraordinary up front – not just for getting a hat trick but for his amazing work rate. Mind you, Michael Richardson could have had three as well. Overall we are an exceedingly good footballing side and we absolutely deserved to beat Trafford.”

This Saturday will see an sensational finale to the season with Wade’s team making one last push to achieve a playoff position when Marine are the visitors to Croft Park.

Wade is phlegmatic.

“Saturday is Saturday,” he said. “Obviously we will go for the win but, at the end of the day, the situation elsewhere is not in our control. Nevertheless we aim to put every effort in and try to play the way we’ve been doing recently. Whatever happens it will be great day and we will aim to celebrate this season’s successes and thank the fans for their support along the way.

“If Ilkeston do it rather than us well, well done to them, they will deserve it.”

Wade hopes that his trio of injured players from Tuesday’s match will be available at the weekend.

Midfielder Matty Wade has had an x-ray on an injured foot; forward Jarrett Rivers has a groin pull, and defender Stuart Bramley has had to have stitches in his foot.
