“Come down and get behind us”. That was the call of Blyth Spartans keeper Nick Thomson ahead of his side’s crucial final day showdown with relegation threatened Marine.
While their Merseyside based opponents are looking at staying in the Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division a win for Spartans, coupled with Ilkeston dropping points at Nantwich Town, would send Tom Wade’s side into the play-offs and Thomson urged the Green Army, aided by some new recruits, to get behind their side.
“The supporters are huge for the players, they are always there, there are so noisy and we feed off that. We need them on Saturday against Marine more than ever because this is our biggest game of the season.
It would be great to see a big crowd inside Croft Park and hopefully we can get some of the supporters from the local Premier League clubs down to get behind us.
We feed off the support and they make us want to keep going even in the toughest times. We are on a great run, we are very confident, so all I would say is come down and get behind us”
Thomson described the game with the Mariners as “huge” but insisted that his side will be better off focusing on their own fixture, rather than worrying about games involving their play-off rivals.
“All we can control is what we do, we don’t need to worry about Curzon Ashton or Nantwich Town, we need to focus on what we do. It will be tough because we all know what the game means to Marine but this is about us, and it is about us doing everything we can to get into those play-off positions, which is exactly what we hope to do”
