Spartans’ manager Tom Wade thought Saturday’s 3-1 score line in his side’s defeat at home to King’s Lynn flattered the visitors.
“We should have had a draw if only we’d taken our chances,” he said. “We were a bit slow out of the blocks but went on to create quite a lot and should have put the game to bed early in the second half. Expectations are high and there is now a different kind of pressure on the lads but we fought hard despite conceding poor goals.
“Sonny Andrews came in on loan from Spennymoor and did very well up front while Damon Mullen was a revelation at right back.
“The vast majority of the fans were great and as supportive as they have been all season. However when my lad Matty came off in the second half the sarcastic cheering was one of the lowest things I’ve seen or heard in football for a long time. The lad had a good game nullifying their number nine in terms of challenging hard in the air and, anyway, to boo him was uncalled for.
“What people must realise is that all the young lads are mine, and Colin’s [Myers, assistant manager] ‘football family’. If people choose to have a go at one of us they are actually having a go at ALL of us.
“I’m looking for a positive reaction from everyone at the club in Tuesday’s game against Frickley.”
