Many times this season Tom Wade has spoken of the learning curve his young squad is on in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League and after the thrilling draw with Ashton United he insisted there was another lesson they would learn from. Matt Chadwick’s last gasp equaliser denied Spartans all three points but Wade described himself as “over the moon” with his players and insisted they will take the positives from the point gained at Hurst Cross.
“It’s funny because I am over the moon with the attitude of the players and the way we have played. Obviously I am annoyed we have conceded three goals and not taken all three points and that’s massively disappointing. That said I thought we bossed the game from start to finish but are learning from mistakes and as this side develops we will stop those happening”
Wade paid tribute to midfielder Lewis Horner who grabbed his first goal for the club to get his side back on even terms just minutes after going behind. The former Hibernian man has come close on a number of occasions this season and the delight on his face as he stroked home his sixtieth minute goal was plain to see and his manager laid down a challenge for the youngster to add to his maiden strike.
“I’m delighted for Lewis, he does a job and works hard. We tried to get him further forward to support Dan Maguire and at times Lewis and Matty Wade swap positions. It’s the first time he has been in the box but he was strong to get there and it was a lovely finish, hopefully he can add more to it in the coming weeks”
With title favourites Chorley travelling to Croft Park next Saturday there is plenty to test Spartans but Wade revealed he can’t wait for the game insisting his side have “no fear”. The Magpies have been in scintillating form recently and Wade called upon the Green Army to get behind his men when Gary Flitcroft’s side come calling in seven days time.
“I’m really looking forward to the Chorley game. It’s a big test but we have no fear. It will be a tough game there’s no doubt about that and I rate them as the best side in this league. I think we just need to go out there and have a real go at them. We need our supporters behind us in numbers and noise. We have played well in all our home games barring maybe two or three and that’s exceptional from a young side like we have. The supporters have been brilliant this season and we need them now more than ever”
