Blyth Spartans have received official confirmation that they will face Shaw Lane AFC in the first round of this season’s Integro Doodson Sports League Cup.
Spartans had been scheduled to face the winners of the preliminary tie between Brighouse and Shaw Lane, but the tie was abandoned on the hour mark – after Shaw Lane’s Daniel Wilkinson suffered a heart attack on the pitch, with his side 2-0 up.
However, following the defender’s untimely passing in hospital, the decision has been taken to award the tie to Shaw Lane. That means Blyth will travel to the Barnsley-based club on Tuesday November 15, for a 7:45pm start.
