Spartans striker Craig Farrell made it five goals in six pre-season fixtures against Team Northumbria but insisted that there is room for improvement from his side. A sloppy first half showing saw the visitors pressure Spartans and it took some serious talking at half time to get a reaction from Tommy Cassidy’s side. The former Carlisle United man said “It was hit and miss today, first half we were second best all over the park but we lifted it after half time and Tom Burj gave us more energy in midfield. We were cruising at 3-0 but some silly mistakes let them back into it.”
Farrell went on to praise young midfielder Burj for the impact he had not only today but during pre-season as a whole. “We were lethargic but Tom lifted the tempo and it spread around the team. It’s a shame we let them back in but Tom gave us the lift we needed”. Being frank about his side’s preparations for the season Farrell went on to say “We are getting there but to be honest we still need to lift ourselves twenty per cent at least but I haven’t come here to be mid-table, we all need to push on to ensure that we get where we should be”
Farrell and his team mates will face Shildon at Croft Park on Wednesday night in their latest pre-season fixture and it’s a 19:30 kick off.
