Reflecting on his side’s 3-2 win over Northern League Second Division champions Team Northumbria, Spartans manager Tommy Cassidy stressed the need for his side to show much urgency during games. The former Northern Ireland International said “First half we weren’t at the races and we were plodding everywhere and needed more urgency. Young Tom (Burj) came on and made the difference for us and it was what we needed to get ahead”.
Cassidy praised two goal striker Craig Farrell and is delighted with the pre-season form of the former Carlisle United and York City striker. “Craig’s a goalscorer, simple as. We do need someone to help him out but he’s the positive and the plus for us today. His first goal was a very good goal and his second excellent.” The Spartans manager did stress that he is still two or three players short of what he wants. He said “These games are for me to see who can do it and who can’t. Everyone has had a fair chance and we still need two or three in before we are ready for the new season”.
Cassidy’s side travel to Witton Albion on Saturday 18th August in their season opener.
