Oli Thompson joins Blyth Spartans

Blyth Spartans is delighted to confirm the signing of forward Oli Thompson on loan from Gateshead until the end of the season.

The young prospect joins Spartans off the back of a brief spell at Ashington where he made fourteen appearances, scoring three goals.

On signing, Oli said: “I’m absolutely delighted to sign with Blyth until the end of the season. I’ve heard nothing but great things about this club, and it’s something I’m looking forward too.”

Oli continued to say: “Speaking with Rob [Elliott] back at Gateshead, I think the playing style of Spartans suits me very well and I feel like it is something I can fit into nicely, that was one of the things that drew me to Blyth.”

Manager Jon Shaw said: “We’re really happy to bring Oli to the Club, he’s highly thought of at Gateshead by the management and the players.

“He’s had a recent loan spell at Ashington and by all accounts was excellent, so it’s time for him to have a go at a higher level and I’m excited to see what impact he can have on games at this level.

“He’s versatile, which we need with the injuries we are currently dealing with, so he’ll come straight into the squad for Saturday and into what will be a great fixture.”

Oli, who made his National League debut for Gateshead against Dagenham & Redbridge, finished off by saying: “I would like to thank Jon and the Chairman for bringing me in. Hopefully, I can contribute with goals and assists and get towards that playoff position.”

Oli comes to Blyth with an already blossoming football career including featuring as a substitute in the FA Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium in 2023.

Welcome to Blyth Spartans, Oli!
