Spartans new boy Andrew Jennings pulled on the green and white shirt for the first time today and put in an impressive show leading the line but ultimately came away with nothing as Witton Albion took all three points from Croft Park with a 3-0 win. Former Billingham Synthonia forward Jennings walked away with the Spartans man of the match award but revealed he was disappointed not to be finishing the game with a goal and more importantly a win. He said “It was disappointing, I was looking to come in and get a win with maybe a goal or two. If the chance had gone that bounced over the bar then maybe it would have been a different story but that’s football for you isn’t it. The first game is always difficult and it’ll take time to adjust, hopefully the lads will see what I’m about and things will develop.”
The Christmas period is a notoriously busy one for any football club and Jennings will become more familiar with his new team mates over the festive period as they face a hectic schedule at Croft Park and on their travels. However the powerful striker sees that as a way to start making his name for the club and ensuring the Spartans can start looking up. “It’s gonna be busy isn’t it but I always like to get off to a good start with clubs. Hopefully with it being a busy period for games it’ll be a busy period for goals too.”
Jennings completed his move from the Northern League side on Friday and said he was eager to test himself at a higher level. He said “I was contacted by Paddy Atkinson during the week and I’ve never played at this standard. I’ve played Northern League for the last six or seven years so I really wanted to take this chance and play for a club like Spartans.”
