Goodbye and thank you!

Now that the dust has settled on pre season and we look forward to the new league campaign, the club would like to take one final look back at the season gone, to offer their thanks to some members of last season’s squad who are no longer at Croft Park, having moved on over the summer.

Peter Jeffries – Goalkeeper
The popular goalkeeper arrived from Spennymoor at the start of the campaign and went on to have an excellent season as one of the heroes of the FA Cup run.

He made a stunning penalty save to secure a draw against Darlington, an excellent save to prevent Hartlepool United from taking a crucial early lead in the live game on Match of the Day and even pulled off a few more than decent saves against the contestants of Question of Sport, in one of the more surreal moments of the cup run.

In total Jeffries made 38 appearances for Blyth Spartans and kept 8 clean sheets.

Peter has since moved to Consett

Ryan Cummings – Central Midfield
The young midfielder moved to the club at the start of the 2013-2014 with then Assistant Manager Colin Myers from Bishop Auckland. He was used primarily as a central midfield, but also appeared as a right back on several occasions to cover injuries and whilst not always selected in the starting XI he was always on hand to attend the long midweek away trips.

In total Ryan made 25 appearances for the club (14 of these coming from the bench) and he scored 1 goal.

Ryan has appeared for Consett and Spennymoor during pre-season

Daniel Hawkins – Central Midfield
Daniel moved to the club last summer from Bishop Auckland and was employed in a number of roles from centre forward, to central midfield and even a spell at right back and performed all these roles admirably.

He made 40 appearances for the club, which included 12 from the bench and scored 4 goals.

Daniel has since moved to Consett

Steven Turnbull – Central Midfield
Steven arrived midway through the season from Brandon United, nicknamed ‘V’ to distinguish him from Stephen Turnbull in the Spartans midfield, he went onto make 7 appearances for Blyth, including 1 coming from the bench and managed 2 goals.

He spent the latter part of the season with a duel registration at Consett

Steven has re-registered with Consett for this season.

Craig Lynch – Attacking Midfield
Signed midway through last season from Spennymoor, Craig played 7 times for the Spartans (with 6 of those appearances coming from the bench) and scored 2 goals.

Craig has since moved to Durham City

Jarrett Rivers – Right Wing
Jarrett was signed from Whitley Bay and went onto to score one of the most iconic goals in the club’s illustrious FA Cup history, with
his last minute winner against Hartlepool United, live on BBC’s Match of the Day. It was clear to see from early in his Spartans career that Jarrett was destined for a career in the Football League and he was watched by a host of sides from higher up the football pyramid.

In total Jarrett featured for the Spartans on 51 occasions, including 12 times from the bench and scored 12 goals for the club.

Jarrett has since moved to Blackpool

Sammy Perez – Centre Forward
Sammy had relocated to North East of England, following his brother Ayoze who signed for Newcastle United. Despite being only a fringe player at Croft Park, he was always on hand to bolster the squad for midweek away games and was a regular attendee of events in the local community as a representative of the club.

In total Sammy made 2 appearances for the club, one of these coming from the bench.

Sammy has re-signed for Team Northumbria (who he had duel-registration with last season).

The club would like to thank all of the lads for their efforts in a green and white shirt lads and wish them all the very best for the future.

Goodbye and Thank You
