Blyth Spartans is delighted to announce the signing of Elliot Forbes on a contract running until the end of the season following the expiration of his deal with Gateshead.
Forbes calls time on his five-and-a-half year spell on Tyneside having progressed through the Club’s academy and featured in 59 first-team fixtures in that time, signing a first professional contract in the summer of 2018.
He played a role in Gateshead’s National League North title-winning side in 2022, as well as their Isuzu FA Trophy final run last year.
The versatile 24-year-old has spent the majority of the first half of the current campaign on loan at Croft Park and has made 19 league appearances, scoring once, which was the equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Kings Lynn Town, securing a pivotal point away from home.
His loan spell began in mid-August, 2023, where he made his debut in a 1-0 defeat away to Scarborough Athletic, and ranged up until the beginning of the new year, where his last fixture saw him play a battling role in midfield during the 2-1 win against South Shields at Croft Park.
Jon Shaw commented on Elliot’s permanent arrival, as he secures his second signing since becoming Spartans manager: “We’re delighted to bring Elliott in for the rest of the season.
“He’s played a lot of minutes for us and got stronger as the season has gone on.
“He knows the lads and gets on well with the group so when he became available it was a deal I wanted to get done as soon as possible.”
Forbes will be in contention to face Bishop’s Stortford tomorrow.
Welcome back, Elliot!
