Blyth Spartans AFC is saddened to be informed of the recent passing of lifelong supporter Trish Fitzgerald. Trish and husband Allan were ardent home and away supporters and often combined the longer away fixtures with a weekend stay. Following discussions with the League Management Committee, the majority of National League North and South Clubs voted that they could not continue to operate whilst there was uncertainty about ongoing grants to compensate for lost revenue due to no spectators being allowed to attend games. The National League have released the following statement: “Following the review of the feedback from Clubs in connection to the recent Clubs meeting, a Board meeting this morning decided to halt the participation in the North/South Divisions for a two-week period, effective immediately.” Those who had already purchased the stream for tomorrow’s game with Chester have been refunded. Blyth Spartans’ National League North fixture at AFC Fylde on Saturday (January 16th) is off following two positive Covid-19 tests in the home side’s camp.
