Arrival | Danny Barlow joins from Whickham

By Luke Duden

Blyth Spartans are pleased to announce the signing of winger Danny Barlow from Whickham FC on a dual registration transfer.

The 23-year-old made his last appearance for Whickham ten days ago, as he netted twice in a 5-3 win over Ashington AFC.

Barlow, born in Monkseaton, has played for both England Schoolboys and the Sunderland Academy before plying his trade in America.

The versatile midfielder turned out for Saginaw Valley State University, where he managed a remarkable 15 goals and five assists in 16 appearances, earning his side’s Player of the Year award for the 2020-21 season, before returning to England last summer.

The left-footed midfielder is welcomed as the second signing since Terry Mitchell took over at the start of December, after the arrival of Patrick Almond last month.

He will be available for selection for tonight’s trip to Southport, with thanks to Whickham for their co-operation.
