Spartans Sign Shaun Utterson

The club can announce the signing of Shaun Utterson following a spell playing for the University of North Carolina.

The 21-year-old, who is a product of Monkseaton Academy, has been training with the Spartans for the last couple of weeks, following his return from the States and played in the training game against Blyth Town on Tuesday night, scoring the second of the Spartans’ two goals.

He has also recently been trialling with a couple of teams in Scotland in a bid to secure a career in full time football.

The right sided midfielder, who can also operate at right back, has already obtained his international clearance, so he will go straight into Tommy Cassidy’s squad for tomorrow’s away fixture with Nuneaton Town (kick off 3pm).

Manager Tommy Cassidy commented “Shaun has come to us after his stint in America and has done well, both in training and in the Blyth Town game. He’s lively, enthusiastic and energetic and will give the club 100%.”

“I am working really hard at the minute to bring players in, I’d like to sign a couple of experienced 28-year-olds who know the league and will also bring the required quality to the squad, but it’s easier said than done. January is a particularly tricky time to do this as club’s don’t want to let their better players go, but I’m speaking to people and hopefully we’ll be able to bring in some other new faces.”

Welcome to the club Shaun.
