News | JJ O’Donnell signs contract extension until 2024

Blyth Spartans are delighted to announce that Player of the Season, JJ O’Donnell, has committed his future to the club until 2024.

The deal comes off the back of an excellent season for the midfielder who was an ever-present in a Spartans side that staved off relegation from National League North and lifted the Northumberland Senior Cup, alongside grabbing a career high 15 goals in all competitions.

On his new deal, O’Donnell said, “I’m absolutely delighted to sign a new contract with this great club. I’m really happy to be staying, everyone here has made me feel very welcome since I signed last year, and the support the fans have shown me personally since I arrived has been incredible.

Last year as a group, we were nowhere near good enough and I was part of that group. I really want to be in a team fighting at the right end of the table and I’ll be doing all I can to get Blyth competing in the top half.

I look forward to seeing everyone when we are back for the new season, let’s hope we can give the supporters a team to be proud of.”

Spartans boss Terry Mitchell added, “I’m delighted JJ has committed to the club, he’s a top player and a great professional as well as being a tremendous role model to some of our younger players.

His goal contribution from midfield last season was right up there with anyone in the league and it’s brilliant he’s staying. We want to push on and improve next season and JJ will be an important part of that.”
