The club can confirm that goalkeeper Craig Turns has signed for Blyth Spartans this morning and will be in the squad for tonight’s trip to Vauxhall Motors.
Craig is, of course, no stranger to Croft Park. Having joined the club on the eve of the 2003 season upon his release from Sunderland, signing for then Spartans manager Paul Baker and making his debut in the opening game of the season against Ashton United.
A composed and hugely popular player, Craig swept the board at the 2004 Players’ Presentation night winning all of the awards available to him.
Better was to come in the 2005/06 season as Craig was a key member of Harry Dunn’s side as they cruised to the Unibond Premier Division title (as well as a couple of cups for good measure) to secure the club’s place in the Conference North. All in all he played 145 games for the Spartans between 2003 and 2006.
Since leaving Blyth he has played for Consett and Durham City, a move which saw him win the Unibond First Division North title last season.
Welcome back Turnsy!
