The result of Anthony’s sending off at Hyde United means that he will miss our last 2 games of the season, Southport at home and Burscough away as well as the first game next season.
If Hyde Utd are defeated in tonight’s home clash against title chasing Southport and Blyth manage a victory on Saturday over Gainsborough Trinity, (who were beaten 0-1 by Hyde last Saturday), the Spartans will virtually be assured of BSN football next season, bar losing a 19 goal difference advantage over Burscough.
Following the club’s epic FA Cup run this season, the FA have annouced the dates for next year’s competition. Following on from Gary’s red card against Redditch United, that we see the popular defender miss 4 matches (the remaining games of this season, as well as the opening game of next), his booking in the recent Vauxhall Motors game was also his 10th of the season, meaning an additional 2 game ban. This will sadly see Gary now miss the opening three games of the 2009/2010 campaign.
On Easter Saturday Blyth striker Anthony Shandran pulled a rabbit out of the hat deftly turning the Workington defence before looking up and stroking the ball home with consummate ease. Yesterday’s 1-1 draw at Lowestoft Town saw Northern League side Whitley Bay FC progress to the final of the FA Vase at Wembley Stadium, that will see the Seasiders face Glossop North End (10 May 2009). Prior to yesterday’s game with Vauxhall Motors, Blyth Spartans’ striker Robert Dale was inducted into the Blyth Spartans 200 Club. As a memento of his achievement he was presented with his ‘200 Club’ t-shirt by Dougie Ramsey (above).
The 2009 Sportsman Dinner, held on Friday 3 April 2009, proved to be a huge hit.
